Australian citizenship

 
Your first step towards Australian citizenship is your permanent Australian visa (permanent residency). To be eligible for Australian citizenship you need to be loyal to Australia, reside in Australia for a required number of years and make a pledge at the special Citizenship ceremony. You can apply for Australian passport after your Citizenship Certificate is issued.

Please note, birth of a child in Australia does not automatically result in Australian citizenship for the child. Only children of Australian citizens or children of Australian permanent residents born in Australia are Australian citiens by birth.
